Labor or Love???
On today…Labor Day 2009, I’ve taken some time to reflect and ask the question…is it “Labor or Love???”
Confucius said “Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” It’s also been said to “Do what you love and you’ll never take a vacation again.” What very powerful, yet thought provoking statements. How many people have “truly” found a job that they love…or consider what they do day in and day out to fall right in line with their passions?
Many people work in a job solely for the paycheck because their bills need to be paid; while some others work for the title and prestige that comes along with the job. Regardless of the reason, if you are not doing what you love (or at least putting processes in place to get there one day), what was your time/purpose on earth really used for? Some might say to get married and have children; or to build relationships and friendships with others…and I also think those purposes are true. However, there are people reading this today who have a relationship or a marriage, with children, and great friends and family…yet those relationships have been strained because they hate what they do 40+ hours a week. The frustration of that unhappiness can easily and subconsciously spill over into other areas of their lives.
Just imagine for a moment if both of those sayings at the beginning were true. What would your life look like? How happy would you be? I think that we were put on this earth to have overall happiness…not compartmentalized happiness. We should love our lives whether we are at home, at work or at play. Don’t we deserve it? Who made us believe that if work was great, then our home would probably suffer; or if our home life was wonderful, then work had to be sacrificed? We should have abundance in ALL areas of our lives. Anything less plants a seed of discontent in our hopes, dreams and aspirations.
I believe that we are here to live life’s experiences to the fullest. To love our family, to build great relationships, to step past our fears and our comfort zone (which is the enemy trying to hold us back from our dreams) and to move closer and closer to the wonderful life that is awaiting each and everyone one of us. It’s not too late! The choice is yours. What do you choose…Labor or Love???
